An Athens man died Thursday after a crash in Hartland.

Matthew Sites, 56, was driving a 2002 GMC pickup truck on Athens Road about 2:40 p.m. when he reportedly lost consciousness, according to the Waterville Morning Sentinel .

His passenger, 39-year-old Kendall Judd, tried to get control of the pickup truck, but it left the road, struck a tree and rolled onto its roof in a driveway, the Sentinel reported.

Sites didn’t survive the crash. Judd was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield as a precaution, according to the Sentinel.

Police told the newspaper that it’s unclear if Sites suffered a medical event before the crash.

Speed and alcohol aren’t considered factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
