UPDATE: June 12th at 9:30 a.m. (KION-TV) - More information has come out regarding the boat fire just off of Moss Landing.

At 3:31 p.m. on Monday, the North County Fire Protection District was dispatched to a vessel in distress in the Monterey Bay. When crews arrived, they were able to make contact with a Moss Landing based 48-foot motor yacht called the 2 Knott y. Five people were on board the vessel and confirmed there was a fire on board in the engine room.

Because sea conditions made it difficult to get on board the ship, crews utilized the fixed mount monitor to douse the flames. Once the main part of the fire was suppressed, crews were able to get closer and use a handline off the bow to continue extinguishing the fire.

Once contained, the vessel was towed just east of the Monterey Harbor by USCG. Boat 12 remained alongside the tow applying water as needed.

Once the boat was put into calmer waters, the fire was fully extinguished. The vessel was then relocated to the Breakwater Cove Marina for haul out. The fire was overhauled with the assistance of Monterey Fire Department Truck 11 in the dry dock area.

There were no injuries to any of the passengers or crews that were on scene. The vessel did suffer significant damage and the investigation is ongoing.
