Plumes of smoke have been spotted at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in North Carolina , with reports that a multi-story car park is on fire .

Fire crews were called to the parking deck at Charlotte-Douglas Airport where "smoke and fire" could be seen coming from the parking deck. There have been unconfirmed reports that at least one vehicle is on fire in the parking lot, with reports on Citizen that there are multiple vehicles on fire.

Firefighters are reportedly working with airport operations and a hazmat team to manage fuel runoff and control the fire as well as to improve ventilation due to severe smoke conditions near the terminal side of the parking deck. "The following are temporarily closed: Hourly Parking Deck, valet parking, and the upper/departure level roadway," airport staff said in a post on X.

Fire department officials seemingly contained the fire quickly as airport officials wrote on X: "All parking operations and roadways have reopened with the exception of the 4th floor level of the Hourly Parking Deck as of 10:17 a.m."

In June, firefighters were dispatched to a fire at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. According to the Charlotte Fire Department, the Josh Birmingham Parkway fire started at 8:10 a.m. Four construction workers were momentarily trapped when the fire broke out in the historic air traffic control tower, but they managed to escape unharmed.

Smoke is seen streaming from the tower in pictures and videos taken at the airport. In ten minutes, firefighters were able to contain the fire. As a precaution, a second alarm was set up to summon more resources. Airport operations continued unhindered because the fire was contained in the former control tower.

Subsequently, investigators discovered that, while demolition was underway, an elevator shaft unintentionally caught fire. Workers reported that molten slag from heated work had fallen down the shaft and onto a foam insulation pile. There were no reported injuries.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, a terrible occurrence transpired at Chicago O'Hare Airport when, just before takeoff, an aircraft engine caught fire on the runway.

According to a statement from United Airlines, smoke and flames suddenly began to billow from one of the aircraft's wings at around 2:00 pm on Monday during a trip from Chicago to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, sending the Airbus 320 careening down the runway.

According to ABC7, the Federal Aviation Administration notified multiple media sites that the engine had caught fire, forcing the airport to momentarily halt operations and cancel takeoff, forcing inbound planes to circle overhead.
