    Man, 45, dies after being pulled from LI swimming pool

    WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Suffolk County detectives are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at his Long Island residence Sunday evening.

    At approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man found unresponsive in a swimming pool located at Graywood Court in West Islip,

    According to officials, Akinola Johnson, 45, was found by a family member and pulled out of the water. Family started CPR until first responders arrived on scene.

    Johnson was transported via ambulance to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip in critical condition and later died.

    Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Third Squad detectives at 631-854-8352.

    This family just moved into the neighborhood at the beginning of the school year. They have small twin children. Unfortunate to have happened at all and especially on Fathers Day.

    This is the third case of a man in his 40’s who drowned in his own pool on Long Island that I’ve heard about in the last two weeks. Opiates and swimming pools don’t mix.
