Suspect barricaded in vehicle in Beverly Hills during standoff

At 4:45 pm a high-speed police chase ended in a major accident involving a stolen vehicle at N Wetherly Dr and Wilshire Blvd in Beverly Hills near Los Angeles.

It appears that a large collision occurred in the area.

A large police presence soon followed. So large it begged the question: what exactly happened here?

Police asked the public to avoid the area of Doheny Dr and Wilshire Blvd while they work to secure the scene after the accident.

They reported that a driver barricaded inside of a vehicle after a police chase.

The driver is reportedly a man who may be in a difficult place mentally and emotionally.

All others involved in the accident are reported safe and secure, though they were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

He was also reported to be armed and driving a stolen vehicle, the latter according to a local police impound.

A helicopter was on the scene shortly after the incident and hovered over, reporting the details from above.

SWAT team members and additional specialized units were then on the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m. after SWAT teams surrounded the car and shot pepper and tear gas into the vehicle.

All roads were reopened by 9:45 pm.
