At 5:16 pm a carjacking was reported in Redwood Heights in East Oakland.

The caller indicated that a weapon was displayed during the carjacking and that a silver four-door Toyota Corolla.

In a surprise turn, the identity of the carjacker was a teenage boy. The caller shared further that the boy fled south on MacArthur Boulevard toward the 580 freeway.

Ten minutes later, police were on scene investigating the empty space the car once occupied and interviewing witnesses.

One hour later, police confirmed that two teenage boys carjacked a person at gunpoint and that they then fled eastbound in the stolen car.

They further report that the suspects also stole a wallet containing $180 cash and a number of credit cards.

One suspect is 16 years old, 5’3” and slim. HE was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and may be in possession of a black handgun.

The second suspect is 13 years old and slim-built and was last seen wearing a gray hoodie.

Responses to the crime—surprising because of the age of the suspects—have been a wide range of reactions.

Some people believe these children should be tried as adults.

Some believe that parents are to be blamed for neglecting the children.

According to one commenter, Toyota Corollas are often profiled as vehicles more likely to get stolen.

According to the same report, they are easily stripped for parts as well.

Will they recover the car? Will these teens ever get actual drivers’ licenses? Only time and your favorite news source will tell.
