Shortly after 7:05 pm on Tuesday, April 13, police were contacted regarding shots fired at a residence in the Wentworth Holland neighborhood in East Oakland.

A ShotSpotter report was also triggered at the same time and police believed the two incidents were related.

According to a 911 caller, shots were fired by a person in a dark blue or black car, possibly a 2000 dark blue or black Honda sedan.

Police were on the scene two minutes after the initial incident report.

Police and emergency medical services often arrive very quickly, which many people don’t know unless they’ve contacted these services recently.

According to what was reported to police, the suspect was last esen heading toward 54th avenue.

Police reported that they had found evidence of gunfire striking a residence. Police found shell casings, but they had not found anyone injured from gunfire.

Neighbors reported the gunfire was very loud.

Police said they found nine shell casings, according to one neighbor.

Last month, homicides in Oakland were up 314% year over year. President Biden has recently worked to curb “ghost guns”—guns that can be purchased in pieces and assembled at home.

More information can be found here.

Will Oakland find a way to curb gun-related crimes? With homicides taking place almost every day, most involving guns, it seems high time for a change to take effect in order to keep communities and individuals safe from harm, especially if they are simply living in a certain neighborhood or walking down a certain street.
