On Thursday afternoon an outdoor fire was reported in Thousand Oaks north of Los Angeles, near 500 Country Valley Road.

The fire expanded to 28 acres and counting. 60 firefighting resources—including air tankers—were on the scene.

The fire is projected to potentially reach 100 acres.

One hour into the firefighters attempt to stem the blaze, evacuations were ordered for residents near Country Valley Road and Via Colinas. They have since been lifted.

Two firefighters have suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Now that the fire has reached 50% contained, the evacuation order has been lifted and residents are able to return home.

As of 10 pm, the fire is 70% contained, all evacuations have been lifted, no structures have been damaged.

Firefighting units will remain on scene throughout the night to help prevent further damage.

Local residents thank firefighters for their quick and effective response.

    Fires in California in 2021

According to Cal Fire, 3,926 acres have burned so far in 2021, a relatively low number, though this is ahead of California’s usual fire season.

In the whole of 2020, 4,257,683 acres burned, a stark difference and a year best not repeated. The 2020 Western United States Wildfire season included the first gigafire, burning over 1 million acres.

The North Fire, also currently blazing and threatening homes near Castaic, in Los Angeles County, dropped evacuation orders after the fire reached 25% containment. It was first reported as a one-acre brush fire. That fire has burned over 500 acres.
