One person died during a two-alarm fire blazing through the top level and roof of a three-story home in Cole Valley on Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported before 6 am in a single-family home at 1130 Shrader near Grattan as large flames erupted from top floors of the home. It was unknown if the house was empty or occupied.

Firefighters arrived on scene in minutes, and immediately requested additional units.

Almost twenty minutes later, the fire department was not yet sure if the home was empty, had been evacuated, or if people were still inside.

One minute later, firefighters evacuated residents near the rear of the building and at least one person was injured. Firefighters and police also shut down Parnassus avenue.

Crews contained the fire at about 8 am. SFFD remained on location near Shrader St and Grattan St for several hours as they "mopped up" the fire, meaning they ensured all of the fire has been completely extinguished.

Traffic was impacted and a large bus needed assistance clearing the roadway.

One person rescued did not survive.

“We are saddened to say that after we rescued one individual, and paramedics extensively attempted to revive the victim, the victim succumbed to the injuries o this fire, said Lt. Johnathan Baxter, the spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department, as reported in live Citizen video.

No residents have been displaced as a result of the fire.

The fire is under investigation by the San Francisco Fire Investigation Task Force. Its cause is currently unknown.
