Man shot by officer after car pursuit in Pacoima

On Monday shortly after 10 am police received a report of a man armed with a pistol on the onramp of the I-5 freeway near Terra Bella Street.

An air unit assisting requested traffic control while officers searched for the suspect.

Citizen safety app user da_n_e showed police cars blocking traffic and a fire truck on the scene.

Twenty minutes later, police state they had the suspect in custody and requested an ambulance to the scene. He later died from his injuries.

An update from California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that traffic would remain blocked for four hours.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Police Department, police shot the man after he emerged from his wrecked vehicle armed with a gun.

According to CBSLA, the pursuit ended near the 5 Freeway in the Arleta neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley.

The incident began just before 10 a.m. at Branford Street and Dorrington Avenue when officers attempted to stop the driver, according to the LAPD. The driver failed to pull over, leading police on a pursuit.

The chase ended about 10 minutes later after the driver, who was allegedly armed with a handgun, exited the vehicle. Police opened fire on the man. He was rushed to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

No officers were injured in the shooting. Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene.

The offramp was closed while police conducted their investigation.
