We explored the famous battlefield of Summit Springs in the heart of the Colorado Plains. During this historical event, the Cheyenne Chief Tall Bull and his Dog Soldiers went up against the United States 5th Cavalry at The Battle of Summit Springs, on July 11, 1869. Even Buffalo Bill Cody was present during this historical event and reacted it during his Wild West shows. During this battle, Chief Tall Bull, the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers, was killed defending his camp. The U.S. forces were assigned to retaliate for a series of raids in north-central Kansas by Chief Tall Bull's Dog Soldiers band of the Cheyenne. And to rescue two woman that were taken captive. The battle happened south of Sterling, Colorado in Washington County near the Logan/Washington county line.

My parents work at the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in eastern Montana... such a different world out there. Enjoyed learning some of the history of their struggles!
