Food made in Colorado: a hidden gem in Northern Colorado

    2024-09-04

Nestled in Northern Colorado is a fifth-generation family dairy. Since 1894 the family-owned all-natural dairy has been operating in Colorado. In 2008, Morning Fresh Dairy became the co-founder of Noosa yoghurt. Now the small batch yoghurt company and the dairy share a beautiful open-to-the-public property in Northern Colorado.

    Noosa Yoghurt

If you have explored a Colorado yogurt section, then it is most likely that you have seen Noosa Yoghurt. Noosa was born in a small beach town in Australia. Hence the Aussie spelling, “yoghurt” as opposed to the American spelling, “yogurt.”

The product is made in Colorado with whole milk from Morning Fresh Dairy across the yard, honey for sweetness, and purée made with real fruit. Our favorite flavor is Tart Cherry.

According to Morning Star Diary, they raise their cows and state the cows are not injected with hormones. In addition, they grow their own corn and endeavor never to use pesticides. The farm milks the cows daily and uses reusable glass bottles, which allows the milk to be fresher and have a better taste.

The milk is either delivered the old-fashioned way, by milkman or you can find it in your local markets up and down the I-25 corridor and Denver Metro. Click to see map of locations.

    Howling Cow Cafe

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Morning Star Diary while camping in the area. We were pleasantly surprised by how quaint and beautiful the property was. We came to the farm to get some ice cream at their Howling Cow Café on a very hot summer’s day. Not only did they have delicious ice cream, but baked goods, specialty coffee, and other milk and dairy products. We sat on a picnic bench in the shade of tall trees and lush grass. It was a perfect place to relax and enjoy the day. The welcoming environment, outside patio, walking paths, and green space in the country make for a great destination for a bike ride or an outing with the family.
