Mishawaka: A Legendary Poudre River Dining Experience

If you would enjoy a front-row seat to Poudre Canyon and River while enjoying a meal, we recommend you try Mishawaka (the Mish). Whether driving up the canyon for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you will love Mishawaka’s relaxing environment, views, and good eats.

The rustic Mish restaurant and concert venue sits on the Poudre River in Northern Colorado. Mishawaka has a long history in Poudre Canyon. It was first realized by Walter S. Thompson in 1916 after a day trip up the canyon. He soon built the Mishawaka Dance Hall and the spot became a destination for music and celebrations. Over the years, ownership has changed hands, but the music continued. In 2010, Dani Grant revived the venue to what it is today.

Mishawaka is a complete restaurant with a wide variety of food. Although they have a large indoor restaurant with large windows, we enjoy the deck, where we can enjoy the river view and bring our dog. If you come in the late fall and sit on the deck, you have a chance to watch the big horn sheep grazing on the canyon hillside.

The staff is friendly and down to earth. Not only was the service great, but several servers came by to give our dog love. They all made sure our dog had water and biscuits.

Going there at the height of the season, you will need reservations, even for breakfast and lunch. You can easily get reservations on Open Table. Make sure to indicate you would like deck or window seating.

During our visit, I ordered The Mish Scramble. The dish consisted of three scrambled eggs with sausage, bacon, ham, onion, tomato, mushroom, jalapeños, and cheese. It was served with home fries and toast. It was one of the best breakfast dishes I have had in a long time. The home fries had a great flavor. Although a little over-salted for my taste.

My husband had the Chicken and Waffle with two fried eggs. The fried chicken was on a Belgian waffle, served with syrup. He was a bit disappointed the fried chicken tenders did not seem homemade. But he did enjoy his meal.

Would we recommend Mishawaka Restaurant? "Yes!" We enjoyed our time there sitting on the deck. The atmosphere, food, and service were excellent. We are hoping to go back during Bighorn Sheep mating season in late fall to enjoy spotting the majestic animals on the hillsides.
