SOUTHERN OCEAN COUNTY - The Ocean County Board of Commissioners released a statement for the press and public on Thursday, August 29. The Ocean County Board of Commissioners is calling on the state Board of Public Utilities to investigate the recent skyrocketing electric bills from Atlantic City Electric. The commissioners are concerned about the impact these increases are having on residents, especially seniors living on fixed incomes.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER Commissioner Gary Quinn wrote: "Our seniors are living on fixed incomes and are facing higher costs for food, gasoline and medicine. This utility is placing an unconscionable burden on our most vulnerable residents," According to the commissioners, the utility has not been transparent or responsive to customer complaints. They have blamed the higher bills on recent rate increases and increased demand during the summer. However, the commissioners argue that these explanations do not justify the significant increases some residents have experienced. The commissioners are demanding that the BPU investigate the matter and hold the utility accountable. They believe that the BPU needs to ask hard questions and demand explanations for the absurd costs. For more local news, visit TAPinto.net
