Delaware Governor Calls on Philadelphia 76ers to Open New Arena in Wilmington

As the Philadelphia 76ers are in the process of looking for a new home, many surrounding areas have placed their bids as potential suitors to house their stadium. Delaware is the most recent state to show interest in hosting the new 76ers stadium.

John Carney, Governor of Delaware, took to social media, calling on the sixers to heavily consider having Delaware host their stadium. Suggesting that they build the stadium along the waterfront, while giving them premium reasons as to why Delaware takes the cake over every other state. He even rendered an image of what the new stadium would look like in Delaware.

“Hey @sixers , if you’re looking outside of Philly, let’s build your new arena in Wilmington. We’re all in. In Delaware, you’ll get:

• A huge Sixers fan base
• No sales tax
• Best community around

Although south Philly’s sports complex expected to see a $2.5 Billion transformation, the original plan was for the 76ers stadium to move downtown near the fashion district. Sixers president Tad Brown spoke on how this move is scheduled to take place 2031-2032

“We know the best thing we believe for the city, for our fans and for our organization, is to be downtown in a state-of-the-art facility that’s going to be privately funded by our ownership team. And that’s going to create a brand new environment, a whole new environment, that’s going to also really give a great economic boost in a development boost to a part of town that really needs it.”
