Many patients who have DNR paperwork come to realize that your purse or wallet may not travel with you in an ambulance run, and in many cities you can end up at a hospital you did not file it at. An interesting alternative I heard is trending is of people having the letters DNR literally tattooed on their chest, in the area of where ekg wires would be put on, and because the pads have to make contact with bare skin, the tattoo would then be seen, or if CPR was going to be done, or paddles used, etc. One elderly woman had letters that were a little over an inch high right in the middle of her chest, with the N on her breast bone, right about where they palpate you for certain tests. You can’t miss it. It doesn’t show until you unbutton her shirt. I think she did it perfect.

I often get asked by my providers if I have an advance directive. What is everyone missing here? I’ve had one for 15 years and my family has copies.the hospital has one too.
