Ohio: Dispensary Sales Surpass $50M, But Where Are The Pre-Rolls?

Recreational sales of marijuana began just over a month ago and Ohio dispensaries have already raked in more than $50 million. However, not everyone is pleased with the current structure of non-medical cannabis sales.

There are a few rules that dispensary owners are waiting for updates on before they believe Ohio customers will be totally satisfied. Namely, the ability to sell pre-rolled joints, or ‘pre-rolls’.

In addition, dispensaries aren’t currently allowed to label recreational marijuana as anything but ‘non-medical’ cannabis. Dispensaries also aren’t currently allowed to put up any celebratory decorations, even if their location is celebrating a grand opening.

The Division of Cannabis Control for the state has made a public statement. They told NBC4 in Columbus, “The division’s role is to regulate licensed cannabis entities as to ensure health and safety. The proposed rules are drafted with that role, and goal, in mind.”

Locals Cannabis operations manager Gillian McCraken is still hoping for some new rules.

“We have had a lot of people coming in and asking for pre-rolls and things like that, or the typical things that they see out of state,” McCracken said.

The Division of Cannabis Control was set to announce new rules regarding the sale of pre-rolls and dispensaries advertising options on Sept. 7, but they have yet to be released to the public or the store operators.
