NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — The NYPD engaged in a car chase after an officer was struck during an attempted car stop in Queens Sunday evening.

At around 5 p.m., police tried to pull over the vehicle near 34th Avenue and 99th Street in Corona when the suspect drove off from the car stop "in reverse at a high rate of speed nearly running over a small child walking with her mother and crashing into a building," NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said in a statement.

The driver then put the car in drive, accelerated at an officer, striking him as he tried to jump out of the way, and pining him between his car and a parked vehicle, before taking off, authorities said.

Officers chased the suspect in his vehicle, striking multiple cars, then was chased on foot onto the 7 subway line and then onto a nearby building, until he was trapped.

Authorities then took the suspect into custody with charges pending.

The officer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
