    Long Island drunk driver arrested after crash leaves 1 dead, another seriously injured

    NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a crash on Long Island left one passenger dead and another seriously injured on Sunday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

    David Valles, 31, was driving a 1987 Ford Mustang on Bay Shore Road in North Babylon when he veered off the roadway and struck a pole at 6:09 p.m., according to police.

    A passenger in the car, John McHale, 67, of North Babylon, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, whose identity was not released, was transported with serious injuries to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip.

    Valles was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries.

    He was later arrested and charged with DWI.
