    NYC teacher shot when bullet flies through window of Bronx school: sources

    NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A teacher was shot in the Bronx on Wednesday when a bullet flew through a window of a middle school, according to police and sources.

    The 33-year-old teacher suffered a graze wound to the hand in the shooting around 11:50 a.m. at MS-391 Angelo Patri Middle School on Folin Street in Fordham Heights, police said.

    He was struck by a bullet that came through a sixth-floor window of the school, sources told 1010 WINS.

    He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

    The shooting came just a day before public school students return to class Thursday after the summer break.

    No students were in the classroom when the teacher was hit, according to sources.

    In a statement, the city Department of Education said: “This egregious display of violence is both upsetting and reprehensible. NYPD immediately responded to the scene where one educator sustained non-life-threatening injuries. We will provide support additional support to this school community.”
