NYPD removes large Palestinian flag hanging from Williamsburg Bridge

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A large Palestinian flag was unfurled on the Williamsburg Bridge on Monday morning and later removed by police, the NYPD said.

The flag appeared on the Brooklyn tower of the bridge during the morning rush.

The NYPD said it was alerted around 8:25 a.m. to the flag hanging from the 300-foot tower of the span.

Members of the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit went up and removed it, police said.

Citizen App video shows the flag waving in the wind while at least two people, believed to be ESU members, scale a large cable to the tower.

Boats from the NYPD harbor unit were spotted patrolling the East River below.

The bridge was closed in both directions for less than a half-hour, according to X posts by Notify NYC .

The NYPD wasn’t immediately able to confirm the bridge was closed for the police activity.

No arrests have been reported, and it wasn’t immediately clear who unfurled the flag.

The stunt comes amid ongoing protests related to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
