TUNNEL VISION: Brutal delays pile up at Hudson River crossings after bus breaks down in Lincoln Tunnel

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Delays into the city at the three Hudson River crossings were well over an hour on Tuesday morning after a disabled bus knocked out lanes in the Lincoln Tunnel and caused cascading traffic chaos.

Inbound delays were up to 90 minutes as the morning rush kicked off at 6:30 a.m., according to the Port Authority. They were still over an hour at 9 a.m.

The delays were caused by a disabled bus that had blocked all inbound lanes as crews worked to remove it. The bus was seen broken down with its tire falling off before it was removed.

City-bound traffic at the Holland Tunnel was also more than an hour, while the George Washington Bridge was up to an hour.

Drivers will find some relief up at the Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge. Though it’s out of the way, at least their wheels will be turning.

There were also outbound delays of 40 minutes at the GWB, 25 minutes at the Lincoln and 20 minutes at the Holland.

MTA and NJ Transit bus delays were widespread in the area, as well. NJ Transit buses headed to Port Authority Bus Terminal were subject to 45-minute delays, while more than a half-dozen MTA express buses were delayed into the Lincoln Tunnel.
