FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) Police placed a 10-year-old student in custody after allegedly circulating a threat against a New Jersey school over social media, authorities said Wednesday.

School officials determined a social media post by the student "depicted a disturbing video of a school" in the Franklin Township district and it was a "potential threat."

At about 7:55 a.m. police responded to all three township schools to secure the areas as students arrived, and stayed until the schools were given the all-clear to lift safety measures, authorities said.

In less than half an hour, investigators identified the 10-year-old student who allegedly posted the video of the threat to the school, police said.

The child is from Franklinville and is currently enrolled in the school district, but officials did not identify their identity.

The student was immediately removed from school and taken into police custody for further investiation.

"The juvenile will be criminally charged with causing a false public alarm," officials said.
