NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday on murder and other charges in the fatal shooting of a mother who police said died protecting her husband and son during a robbery at their condo in Chinatown earlier this month.

The suspect, who was not named because of his age, was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery, as well as three counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arrested in connection with the killing of Ying Zhu Liu , 57, during a robbery at 44 Market St., a condo building steps from the Manhattan Bridge, around 11 p.m. on Sept. 9.

Liu suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was unresponsive by the time officers arrived, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, two males followed Liu’s 61-year-old husband into the building and up an elevator to an eighth-floor hallway. During the commotion, Liu went out to the hallway to intervene and was shot in front of her husband and 32-year-old son, who was pistol-whipped during the confrontation. The thieves then fled with the husband's phone.

Police are said to be searching for at least one more teen suspect in the shooting and robbery.

The 16-year-old is just the latest teen charged with murder this week for a deadly shooting in the city.

In a separate case out of Queens, a 15-year-old boy was charged Wednesday with fatally shooting a 66-year-old man who was driving through St. Albans on Monday afternoon. The victim was struck in the head by an apparent stray bullet, causing him to crash his Nissan SUV into a 23-year-old pedestrian, who suffered injuries to her legs.

he is not named because of his age, he killed someone in a robbery at that age, he should've revealed people should know who he is for he could be sent to juvenile detention due to that age and families have their love ones who are in there for far less serious offences.
