ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A woman was brutally attacked unprovoked as she headed to work in Bergen County over the weekend, leaving her with severe injuries, including a brain bleed and a broken jaw, police said Tuesday as they announced the arrest of a man.

The 61-year-old victim was found bleeding on the ground in Englewood around 6:30 a.m. Saturday after she left home.

Responding officers discovered her with “severe facial and head injuries” in the area of Forest Avenue and Overpeck Avenue, police said.

According to cops, she was on her way to work when she was “attacked by a stranger without provocation.”

In addition to the brain bleed and broken jaw, the vicious assault left her with the loss of teeth, a broken finger, lacerations to the back of her head and extensive bruising on her face, police said.

During the investigation, as detectives were reviewing video of the assault, patrol officers were dispatched to Palisade Avenue for a report of a barefoot man loitering inside a business, according to police.

The officers identified the man as the suspect from the video and noticed he had cuts on his hands, knees and feet, police said.

The 31-year-old, identified by police as Kemarley McIntosh, was detained and taken to Englewood Hospital for treatment and then to New Bridge Medical Center for a psych evaluation.

After being cleared, he was taken to Englewood police headquarters, where he allegedly confessed to the assault.

He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and endangering an injured victim.
