DEAD BABY FOUND: Newborn's body discovered in Financial District restaurant's bathroom

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A baby was found dead Monday morning in the bathroom of a restaurant on Fulton Street in Manhattan's Financial District.

The body of a newborn-- whose gender was not released by police -- was found before 10 a.m. after police responded to a 911 call, but the restaurant, Sophie's Cuban Cuisine, does not open until 10:30 a.m. So the NYPD is trying to ascertain if the baby was left there Sunday night or if someone somehow used the restroom Monday morning.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS workers, police said.

The city's Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how the child died.

There have been no arrests.
