NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — It’s spooky season, and for the third year in a row, there will be more than 100 car-free events across the five boroughs throughout October as part of the New York City Department of Transportation’s “Trick-or-Streets” program, the agency announced Thursday.
“Trick-or-Streets’ is back and bigger than ever—and we invite all New Yorkers to take part in an event this month!” DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said. “Our streets serve all New Yorkers—and ‘Trick-or-Streets’ is a great example of how we can use them to bring joy and greater safety to so many children.”
Developed as one of the city’s Open Streets, Plaza and Public Realm initiatives, the program is intended to bring residents, community organizations, institutions and other neighborhood associations together for the holiday.
There will be 10 signature events with Halloween-themes programming and performances throughout the city, which will include live music, circus acts, comedic clown performances, jugglers and more, according to the DOT, with the first premier event to be held Saturday, Oct. 5.
