JOHN DOE: NYPD releases facial rendering to help identify man whose skeletal remains were found in 1997

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD released renderings of a man on Tuesday whose skeletal remains were found over 27 years ago in Manhattan, hoping to identify the deceased and learn more about his death.

On Aug. 1, 1997, police responded to a 911 call reporting possible human remains inside a building located at 206 West 121st St. in Harlem.

Depicted in composite sketches released by police this week, the unidentified man was described as Black, about 20- to 30-years-old with a short, afro hairstyle. He was believed to have been approximately 5’10” to 6’1” in height.

The medical examiner is working to determine his cause of death.
