NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Long Island man was tased and arrested on Monday after he injured an officer while resisting arrest following a car crash, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Charles Klimovich, 63, was involved in a car accident near Bellmore Avenue and Merrick Road in Bellmore at around 3:50 p.m., police said.

When officers at the scene attempted to obtain his information to document the accident, Klimovich allegedly refused, became combative, and tried to flee, according to authorities.

As officers attempted to place him under arrest, Klimovich continued to resist and refused to comply. Police eventually used a Taser to subdue and arrest him.

One officer sustained injuries to his elbow and both knees during the struggle. The injured officer was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Klimovich was charged with assault, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest.
