NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 59-year-old man was killed in Brooklyn on Friday morning after he was struck by a delivery truck, and police announced Saturday that the driver, who fled the scene, has been apprehended.

Lennis Escalona Luna, 42, of Woodside, is charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care. It is unclear if he will face any additional charges.

Just after 9:30 a.m. on Friday, 59-year-old Marco Gallardo Tirado was walking on Wyckoff Avenue in Bushwick and began to cross DeKalb Avenue.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad found that as Gallardo Tirado crossed the street, he was struck by a white 2025 Freightliner MT 45G delivery truck that was trying to make a right turn onto DeKalb Avenue.

Police and EMS responded to the scene, and found Gallardo Tirado with severe trauma to the body. He was transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in critical condition, and later pronounced dead.

Gallardo Tirado lived only five blocks from where he was killed.

Escalona Luna, the alleged driver of the box truck, was arrested six hours later, at about 3:30 p.m., in Park Slope after fleeing the scene.
