Tropical Storm Debby is expected to impact the Charlotte area this week, bringing heavy rain and the risk of flash flooding.

Local meteorologists warn that while severe weather can’t be ruled out, the biggest concern for Charlotte is flooding. Debby’s slow northward crawl means prolonged periods of heavy rain, exacerbating the threat of flash floods.

Charleston, South Carolina, is under a curfew as the city prepares for up to 15 inches of rain.

In Charlotte, showers are expected on Tuesday and through the week, with the heaviest rain arriving with Debby on Wednesday. Heavy rain bands are anticipated to move in from the southeast late Wednesday, continuing through Friday.

The period from Thursday, August 9, through Saturday, August 11, is particularly concerning, with Thursday and Friday posing the highest flooding potential. Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the storm approaches.
