Frankie Beverly , frontman for the R&B soul and funk band Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly has passed away at 77.

His family confirmed the news of his passing in a post on his official social media accounts.

Frankie Beverly, born Howard Beverly in December 1946 in Philadelphia, PA, began his musical career by forming several groups as a teenager. His first taste of success came with Frankie Beverly and the Butlers, who released “If That’s What You Wanted” in 1967, catching the eye of record producer Kenny Gamble.

The group moved to California, rebranded as “Raw Soul,” and soon attracted the attention of Motown Legend Marvin Gaye. Gaye not only made them the opening act on his tours but also convinced them to adopt the name Maze, setting the stage for their lasting legacy in the music industry.

Formed in the 1970s, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly became renowned for their smooth, soulful sound, producing timeless hits like “Before I Let Go,” “Joy and Pain,” and “Happy Feelin’s.” Beverly’s distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence endeared him to fans, making him a beloved figure in the R&B and soul music scenes.

Audiences flocked to see Maze, often donning Beverly’s signature all-white attire, creating a unifying and vibrant atmosphere at concerts.

In 2024, Beverly announced his retirement with the “I Wanna Thank You Farewell Tour,” culminating in a final, emotional performance on May 12th at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

Beverly’s music has left an indelible mark on his fans, evoking memories of joy, pain, and celebration. His farewell tour was a heartfelt tribute, filled with nostalgia and gratitude, marking the end of an era for many devoted followers.
