A Western North Carolina man is in custody after a deputy involved shooting there, earlier this month. As we previously reported, the Haywood County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence call just before 5PM on April 6th.

When deputies arrived they tried to talk the suspect into a peaceful surrender, but that didn't work and a shootout ensued. None of the deputies involved were injured, however the suspect 47 year old Steven Hawkins of Canton was airlifted to the hospital.

Hawkins was taken into custody yesterday and faces a list of charges following the incident. The Sheriff's Office says Hawkins violated a protective order in the incident, to start with.

Domestic calls can be dangerous. My Dad responded to a DC made by a wife alleging her husband was beating her. When my Dad arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody the wife shot my Dad. He survived and went on to serve for 45 years.
