Suspect in fatal hit and run pleads guilty, gets less than three years

A woman will do less than 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to a fatal hit and run crash in Western North Carolina, nearly two years ago. Officials in Buncombe County say 21 year old, Estanfia Salgado Mata pleaded guilty to felony hit and run resulting in death on Monday.

The charges come after a crash on Highway 70 in Buncombe County on July 7th of 2022. Officials say a motorcyclist later identified as Terrance Weaver crashed his motorcycle and Mata ran over him and left the scene.

Weaver died following the crash and Mata was taken into custody. Mata is set to serve between 16 and 29 months in prison.
