Another Upstate bar is shutting down as the South Carolina venue crisis continues. Palmetto Brothers Dispensary in Laurens says they will close their doors June 22nd.

Ownership has cited the skyrocketing costs of liquor liability insurance as the reason for the closure. The business opened 3 years ago and says their insurance rates have gone up by more than 300% during that time frame.

Palmetto Brothers is the latest Upstate bar to close shop due to the uptick in insurance premiums. Those increases have come about after state legislation was passed a few years ago requiring establishments that serve liquor to carry a minimum of a million dollars in liability insurance.

This comes after iconic Greenville music venue the Blindhorse Saloon closed shop last month.

It is a shame that businesses that have entertainment for people ages 18 and 21 and up are the one's that a losing their financial security, because of law suits, and lawyers that basically beg people to file lawsuits against entertainment venues that serve alcohol to keep their pockets fat!! People have a responsibility to their own mistakes and stupidity that case death and accidents, but it is better to blame the business for their actions. It is a situation that is considered a hard decision to handle, as far as the business and the way people choose to make personal decisions to drive intoxicated or not and whether the business can observe if they are intoxicated or not!! I am older and we made decisions that thankfully did not harm our lives or others. Shutting down a business that follows all the laws should not be punished or the customers that enjoy it and a reasonable price. It is no wonder that our young adults seem to be bored or too broke to enjoy anything.!
