An Upstate man has been found guilty on federal charges after he threatened public officials. The U.S. Attorney's Office says 51 year old Jonathan McCaslan of Calhoun Falls was convicted of stalking, mailing threatening letters and perpetuating a hoax.

Court records say McCaslan was engaged in divorce proceedings and attempted to have his wife arrested by sending threatening letters to the Calhoun Falls Police Department and a specific officer there. Both letters contained a white powdery substance, and his wife was framed as the author.

Testing showed the powder was a harmless substance. McCaslan's DNA was found on the stamps of one of the letters, and some of the info in the letters was known by McCaslan only and not his wife.

McCaslan is set to be sentenced at a later date; there is no parole in the federal prison system.
