The Upstate of South Carolina is seeing several events ahead of and on 9/11 to honor the first responders who both risked and gave their lives on one of America’s darkest days.

First Responders Weekend is taking place in Greenville at Fluor Field, including the Annual 9/11 Stair Climb from 8:30am to 3pm on Saturday and the Heroes Softball Game between City firefighters and police officers starting at 1pm on Sunday.

A similar stair climb event is also happening in Clemson University’s Memorial Stadium from 7:30 to 11am on the day of, next Wednesday the 11th.

Bob Jones University is also hosting a commemorative event, setting up thousands of flags on the main campus through next week to represent the nearly 3000 victims of 9/11.

Another 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is happening in Spartanburg on September 11th from 8:30am to 9:11am at the fire station on 450 Wofford Street.

There are also several local 5ks, 10ks, and other runs happening around the Upstate, including the 9-hour Never Forget 9:11 Endurance challenge happening in Greer starting at 8am on Saturday. A lighter 2-hour remembrance walk is also happening in Abbeville County at 8:30am on Saturday.
