Several inmates suffer burns in fire at Low Country Jail

A weekend fire at a Low Country Jail left several people inmates injured. Reports of a fire were made at the Jasper County Detention Center around 830, Saturday night.

Deputies and fire personnel responded and were able to extinguish the fire. However, 7 inmates reportedly suffered burns and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Officials say after the fire was over a head count was performed and everyone was believed to be accounted for. There's been no word on the cause of the fire and no further details have been made public, as of the time of this report.
