Upstate's largest school district to remain closed this week

The Upstate's largest school district says its schools will remain closed through the rest of this week. GCS Spokesman Tim Waller said in a statement Monday "The decision to close for the rest of the week is due to a lack of stable power and safe transportation routes."

The statement went on to say Widespread power outages, numerous traffic signals not working, and downed power lines and trees make travel unsafe for in-person learning. The lack of power, Internet access, and unreliable cell phone reception across the community makes eLearning inconsistent or impossible."

Schools and Offices will remain closed and decisions on athletics and other activities will be announced on Wednesday.
