FORT WAYNE, Ind. — An inmate has been sentenced to another 35 years behind bars…this time for the death of an Allen County correctional officer in 1998.

Police say Bernard McClaney shot and killed Daniel Osborn in April of 1998. Osborn worked as a confinement officer in Allen County, and at a Subway restaurant – which was where he was shot.

For years, the death of Osborn remained a cold case. But, DNA evidence and McClaney’s own admission of guilt eventually allowed detectives to close it.

At the time of his admission, McClaney was already serving 55 years behind bars for another 1998 homicide. By pleading guilty to the voluntary manslaughter of Osborn, he got 35 years added to his time.

And, these two deaths are not the only criminal cases in which McClaney may have been involved. Officers say he was connected to a homicide in Ohio before committing his crimes in Fort Wayne.
