INDIANAPOLIS — Journeyman driver Conor Daly is once again back in the IndyCar paddock as he will take over the drive left behind by Agustin Canapino.

The deal will have Daly in the No. 78 car for the remainder of the season, according to Juncos Hollinger Racing.

Canapino and JHR parted ways last week after a tumultuous season that involved death threats from fans of Canapino against other drivers in the series.

“I am extremely pleased to reunite with Ricardo Juncos after our success together in the Road To Indy,” Daly said. “Ricardo took a chance on me when I was young and it made a huge difference in my career. There are a lot of people on this team that I’ve worked with before and that gives me a lot of confidence.”

Daly has not raced in IndyCar since driving for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in the Indianapolis 500. He raced half the season with Ed Carpenter Racing until being let go by the team midway through the season.

As Daly mentioned, it is a reunion of sorts for both he and JHR. 14 years ago Daly drove for what was the then ‘Juncos Racing’ in what was then the Star Mazda championship, one of the junior rungs of the “Road To Indy” ladder.

Daly and Juncos won the Star Mazda championship together in 2010, which led to his elevation to the Indy NXT Series (Indy Lights) and eventually the NTT IndyCar Series in 2013.

However, Daly has never been able to establish any kind of consistency with one particular team, but he has been a proven go-to driver whenever a team is in need of a driver.

“Having Conor Daly back in a JHR car after many years is like a flashback to some great memories, as we achieved a lot together,” said team owner Riccardo Jones. “Now it’s time to focus on what’s ahead and aim for strong results in the rest of the NTT IndyCar Series season.”

This will be the 12th different team that Daly has raced for in the NTT IndyCar Series. In fact, Daly will now have raced for every team in the IndyCar paddock except Team Penske.
