Pacers Owner Herb Simon Has Chosen His Hall Of Fame Presenters

Indiana Pacers and Fever owner Herb Simon is set to be enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in one month.

The enshrinement ceremony will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13 at Symphony Hall in Springfield, Massachusetts, and Simon is one of 13 individuals to be celebrated this year.

Per tradition, each individual is able to select previous inductees to accompany and present them on stage. It is a special honor for all involved.

    Simon has made his selections.

    • Larry Bird , former Pacers head coach and executive | class of 1998
    • Reggie Miller , first-round pick in 1987 | class of 2012
    • Tamika Catchings , first-round pick in 2001 | class of 2020

All three are fantastic selections. It’s just too bad that the late Slick Leonard (class of 2014), who passed away in 2021 , cannot be there. But you know he’ll be smiling on proudly.

The ceremony will be 10 days before Simon celebrates his 90th birthday. He bought the Pacers with his late brother, Mel, for $11 million back in 1983.

Simon was named a finalist during All-Star Weekend in February and then was announced as a member of the 2024 class back in April .

“I’m also very proud to be involved with these incredible people up here,” Simon said then. “I’m also representing the Indiana Pacers and the Fever and the state of Indiana, which is the place where basketball was perfected. I’m very proud of that too, and proud to be here.”

The original date for Hall of Fame weekend was pushed back due to the Paris Olympics, in which both the men’s and women’s basketball teams returned home with a gold medal.
