The NFL has kind of butchered the “four quarters of the regular season” saying with the added 17th (and likely soon to be 18th) game. But we’re close enough to where it still applies.  We’re four Sundays through the 2024 season and we’re starting to see some storylines and opinions formulate across the league.  The Jaguars and Titans are winless (as of this writing), the Chiefs and Vikings keep finding ways to win and the Ravens seem to be back on track.

There are plenty of other things going on through four weeks of the NFL season.  Let’s dive into them now.

Bad Scary: Anthony Richardson Is Injured….Again

Well, it took longer than expected but Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson failed to complete another NFL game he started.  It was a scene Colts fans have been all too familiar with seeing in his short career.  He came up lame on back-to-back plays and exited with a hip pointer injury.  The Colts turned to Joe Flacco, who was serviceable, and the offense looked more fluid and balanced with him under center.  Richardson balked at talk that he’s injury prone after the game but if it sounds like a duck and it looks like a duck, it’s a damn duck.  Despite his bigger frame, he’s getting banged up more frequently than quarterbacks of slighter build.  Whether it’s bad luck or not protecting himself, the lack of availability is becoming an issue.  His status for Week 5 is up in the air but it also throws another wrench in his development and the Colts hoping to see what they’ve got in the former No. 4 overall pick.

Bad Scary: Jets/Broncos Play A Truly Dreadful Game

If you took in Week 4 on NFL RedZone, there’s a good chance you had no idea this game was played.  A 10-9 snoozefest that saw Broncos QB Bo Nix accumulate -7 passing yards in the first half yet found enough offense to top Aaron Rodgers and the vaunted Jets defense.  Nix finished 12-of-25 for 60 yards and a touchdown while Rodgers threw for 225 yards but was sacked five times.  It was truly a heinous performance by both teams but given the market the Jets play in their performance will be much more amplified.  This was a game both teams should burn the film of and that anyone who viewed it should clear their eyes with bleach.  The worst game of the 2024 season so far.

Good Scary: Jayden Daniels, Franchise Savior

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels looks to be the clear-cut front-runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year through the first quarter of the season.  Daniels was once again tremendously accurate on Sunday, completing 26-of-30 passes for 233 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.  This is coming off of last week’s performance where he only threw two incompletions and looked electric in front of a national audience.  In the past two weeks, Daniel has thrown a grand total of six incompletions and has seven total touchdowns to one interception on the season.  He’s got the Commanders atop the NFC East at 3-1 and he’s been one of the most must-see players so far this season. Some tough defenses await the next few weeks, but Washington looks like they have their franchise QB.
