From 1988-1993, the Indianapolis Colts had one of the best returners in the history of the game, Clarence Verdin .

In 1993, Verdin led the NFL in kickoff return yards. He was labeled a Pro-Bowler in 1990 and 1992 with the Indianapolis Colts. What attracted fans to Verdin were his touchdown celebrations. When he got in the endzone, he broke out “The Verdance.”

He spent six seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, two years with the then Washington Redskins, and one year with the Atlanta Falcons. Verdin was coined by Jim Irsay as “CNN” because he could run just as fast as he could talk.

As a receiver, he only caught 80 footballs for 1,329 yards and eight touchdowns as a member of the Colts. Those numbers might have been higher for Verdin if he didn’t play with Eric Dickerson.

On Friday’s Query & Company , Clarence Verdin was this week’s Former Colt Friday guest with Jake Query and Jimmy Cook to discuss:

    • His love for Indianapolis
    • Meeting Peyton Manning when he was in high school at an offseason workout
    • What happened to his house when the Saints beat the Colts in the Super Bowl in 2010
    • How important Jim Irsay is to him
