The Buckeyes bolstered their lineup with their third offseason acquisition, securing former Alabama center Seth McLaughlin, as reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

McLaughlin recently announced his decision to explore opportunities in the transfer portal after four seasons with the Crimson Tide, ultimately opting to join Ohio State after a visit to Columbus. With just one year of eligibility remaining, he found a promising fit as a Buckeye.

Ohio State's current starting center, Carson Hinzman, faced setbacks that prevented his participation in the Cotton Bowl. As McLaughlin boasts a track record of starting all 14 games in 2023—including high-stakes matchups like the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff semifinals—and eight in 2022, a potential competition for the center position looms in the upcoming season.

Originally considered a three-star recruit in 2020, McLaughlin's transfer saw him elevated to a four-star status, becoming the No. 2 interior lineman in the portal, according to 247Sports.

During his tenure with Alabama under Nick Saban, McLaughlin showcased remarkable skill, credited with allowing only one sack. However, this season witnessed a hiccup in his performance, notably a fumbled snap to Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe during the College Football Playoff semifinal against Michigan, contributing to the Crimson Tide's elimination from championship contention.

McLaughlin's arrival brings much-needed experience to the Buckeyes' offensive line, a critical asset following a game where Ohio State conceded four sacks against Missouri in the Cotton Bowl on December 29, 2023.

His addition joins the ranks of former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard and former Ohio University tight end Will Kacmarek, strengthening the team ahead of the spring season in 2024.
