One of the toughest jobs in the world is being a mother , but entrepreneur, podcast host and mom of three Lizzy Mathis is showing how cool it can be.

Mathis is a busy wife and mom of three kids. She also hosts a podcast and co-hosts the series “Honest Renovations” with friend and actress Jessica Alba. Mathis is big on being present with friends and family, while fostering her own goals. She hopes to inspire all women to do the same.

Mathis spoke with 21Ninety about how women can be true to themselves while uplifting people around them.

21NINETY: You wear so many hats as a mom, wife, podcaster, business owner and television personality. How do you balance it all?

LIZZY MATHIS: I think that the key is to know that there is no balance. Balance gives the impression that you can be equally balanced in all areas at one time. I don’t think that that’s possible. I’m very lucky to have a very supportive husband, friends and family around to always show love to my kids and show support in any way. I feel very blessed that I get to bring my kids along a lot of the time. They see me at work doing what I love to do. I think it’s also about creating solid boundaries. It’s super important that after a certain time of the day, I cut it all off and really focus on my kids. It’s all a juggle.

21N: How do you want to inspire other moms?

LM: I hope that I’m able to inspire other women in total to follow what they love to do, whether you’re a mom or a woman who hasn’t become a mom yet. Sometimes, we get streamlined on what we think we are supposed to do, what others want us to do or what society tells us is the right thing to do. Following your heart is your north star. Inspiring women that there is no cap. There is no limit. There is no bar that you’re hitting and that’s it. You can be a mom, a friend, a wife or partner. You can be a successful career woman and live your life in totality.

21N: How do you lean on the other women in your life?

LM: I lean on the other women in my life who support me first. Therefore, they are in love and support my kids as well. Having your kids see other women in their life who can give them support and love and all of those good feelings is also so important. It’s also important to have other women who are like-minded in your world. It helps me strive to new heights, have a place where I can cry and get through the challenges that are inevitable.

21N: You use cool mom in the titles of your business and podcast. What is a cool mom?

LM: I think a cool mom is any mom who loves living in her skin. On the podcast, I get to talk to so many tastemakers of women in their space. It’s just been such a joy because there has just been so much relatability in everybody’s story. I’ve probably interviewed 100 women, and I can honestly say that every story is unique, but every story has a thread of relatability. Everything we’ve been through leads us to exactly where we are right now. That is what the podcast is all about. IT’s there to inspire mothers that whatever their passion is, motherhood does not stop you. It does not define you. It is a part of your journey but there is so much more to you.

21N: On your television show you help families spruce up their homes. What are three things you would tell a mom on a budget to do in her home?

LM: First thing you are going to do is de-clutter. If you haven’t used it in six months, you don’t need it. Donate it to another family. What you don’t need anymore could be something that someone desperately needs. If it really holds dear to you then put it up or display it. Organization is your next step. You can’t see your entire house or room in a different way until you declutter and organize. When you have kids, they come with a lot of stuff. Make sure they put up things and organize where those things go. Then, refresh. You’d be surprised how a fresh coat of paint, a new rug, curtains, or pillows can change an entire space.
