It’s may be hard to believe, but Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s oldest daughter really is growing up. It seems like just yesterday a young Blue Ivy was telling her parents to calm down while sitting in the audience at the Grammy’s. Now, the 12 year old is blossoming as a fashion plate with looks that have caught fan’s attention.

Her most recent statement came in the form of a denim on denim look that mixed cool girl aesthetic with streetwear vibes. It’s hard to ignore how similar the tween is to her mom in both looks and style. In fact, one fan on Instagram pointed out how “Beyoncé coded” Blue’s most recent look was. Similar to the heavily used term “ core ,” the term coded was popularized on TikTok and is a reference to how similar two things are.

Here are five times the mother-daughter duo’s style choices had fans doing a double take.

    Oversized Denim On Denim

Blue Ivy’s most recent viral style choice featured baggy cargo jeans, a handkerchief top and an oversized denim jacket casually worn off-the-shoulder. Denim on Denim is a favorite look of Beyoncé’s and the mom of three has been seen many times rocking a Canadian tuxedo. Now, that she is in her “Cowboy Carter” era, the singer has a real commitment to the Americana aesthetic, which includes lots of denim wear. But, her love of the blue jean dates back to her Destiny’s Child days. In 2021, Beyoncé wore a look quite similar to Blue Ivy’s recent fit. Like her daughter, the mom rocked an oversized denim jacket and white top. However, Beyoncé chose to pair her’s with a denim mini skirt.

Beyoncé is no stranger to the sidelines of professional sports games. Like her mother, Blue Ivy sits court side and stands on the field for many major sporting events, including the Super Bowl. In February, Blue tagged along with dad, Jay-Z, to Super Bowl LVIII, where she wore a letterman jacket by Off-White. Beyoncé’s too chose a varsity jacket to complete her sideline look in 2015, as she watched the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Los Angeles Clippers.

Because of her parent’s careers, Blue Ivy has graced many red carpets and attended countless award shows. In February, the 12 year old joined her father on stage at the 66th Grammy Awards, as he accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. Blue wore an age appropriate yet glamorous cream, off-the-shoulder midi gown. Years earlier, Beyoncé also chose to wear a cream gown while attending an awards show. This one was the 66th Golden Globe awards in 2009. Beyoncé’s look was a sleeveless, floor-length gown with textured detailing.

There were several opportunities for the mother-daughter duo to twin when Blue Ivy joined Beyoncé on the Renaissance World Tour . This army fatigue look was an iconic moment for the two as they performed on stage. While their looks were similar they were unique in their own way. It allowed both mother and daughter to show off their personal style.
