Time with our besties has the power to restore us. Whether we are at a high or low point in our lives, time with our best friends has the potential to make everything feel better. Similarly, having a well-balanced breakfast at the start of our day can also set the tone for how we feel. Although with the increased responsibilities of adulthood , managing both can feel like quite the task. We’re often moving so fast that time with friends feels out of our reach as does prioritizing a meal before lunch . All the more important that we exercise the discipline and self-care to do both. Combine the two  and it’s a win-win. Bestie breakfasts, while not always the most nutritious diet-wise, feed our body and soul. Here’s why you should add ‘bestie breakfasts’ to your calendar.

    Time With Your Bestie

Time with our bestie is essential to our health – mental, physical and spiritual. According to a report on adult health from the Mayo Clinic, friendship reduces the risk of health problems , including depression, high blood pressure and a high body mass index (BMI). Studies show that social support is more likely to extend the life of friends than those with fewer connections. Seeing as health is more than physical, it’s important to prioritize what helps us feel balanced in other aspects of our livesl. Not only can bestie breakfasts remind you to eat breakfast in the first place, they create an environment to be vulnerable about the wins and losses we experience. That honesty feeds the trust within our relationships with our besties and ourselves. And if it happens to be your favorite meal of the day, imagine having it semi-consistently with your favorite person.

    The Importance of Breakfast

Breakfast is often described as the most important meal of the day. Studies show, according to the National Library of Medicine, that breakfast can contribute towards weight control. Having it first thing in the morning also helps us make better food choices throughout the day. Creating that habit prevents us from grabbing the first thing we see and possibly making choices that might not be best when it comes to what we eat. Better food decision-making can lead to us feeling empowered to make better choices all the way around. Although if the choice is a boozy or sugary breakfast or brunch with friends, you ate breakfast and had a good time. The goal, in both cases, appears to be balance: balance in how we feel in our bodies.

How To Add ‘Bestie Breakfasts’ To Your Calendar

It isn’t solely about physical health though: it’s about making time for the things and people that are important to us. It’s about using our calendar to balance our lives in a way that’s restorative while building habits around being mindful both socially and nutritionally. Whether it’s during the week or on the weekend, it’s an underrated way of reconnecting with friends. You might be freshest at the top of your day or deeply in need of a caffeine/carb pick-me-up . Either way, our besties can only enhance the experience. Every get together doesn’t need to be over dinner during time that we might need for ourselves or our families. Open yourself up to time with your bestie over breakfast and see how things can change for you healthwise and across the board.

The way that we start the day sets the tone for the rest of it and possibly the rest of the week. Why not do it with a person we love over a meal that feeds the eyes, stomach and spirit?
