Press-ons have become a go-to for the manicure lovers who are short on time or prioritize nail health. While several products used to achieve manicures have become increasingly healthier and more natural, press-ons offer a quicker alternative with exposure to less chemicals.

They aren’t necessarily new to the scene though. For about as long as manicures have been happening, there have also existed options for lengthening and hardening nails . So why are they becoming even more popular (again)? Maybe it’s the convenience and the more natural way of doing things even though glues are still a part of the process.

Here’s a closer look at press-ons vs. the salon, and why these nails are the new go-to for your mani-pedi.

Press-Ons Vs. The Nail Salon: Convenience

A quick and effortless application, with proper prep, will allow for your press-on nails to last upwards of five days. While typical manis done in the salon often have a longer life, the convenience of purchasing your press-ons and putting them on whenever you’d like holds some weight. Several drug stores and beauty outlets offer an array of press-ons that come equipped with the tools needed to achieve a basic manicure.

A small emery board and wooden stick to adjust your cuticles paired with a cleansing towelette in some sets and the usual glue will get the job done. While manicures at the salon can take about 45 minutes, your home (or wherever) press-on application can be done in half an hour. And now there’s the option of design outside of your classic French manicure or solid color.

Press-Ons Vs. The Nail Salon: Design

Press-ons have come a long way. The stylings that we thought were exclusive to the nail artists now comes in a box. Ranging in length, shape, color and vibe, press-ons are bringing the heat. Not only are they now available at drug stores and beauty outlets, and have been, social media platforms have become a way for retailers and nail artists to sell them too. Craving a flame-inspired set? You’ve got it. Bedazzled with charms, it’s out there. In the mood for something simpler? That’s also available.

Outside of the nail artistry traditions, relationships we build and salon experience, press-ons are giving us the option to get the manicure look while doing a bit of the work ourselves at home. Now comparable in quality and lasting time, it’s no wonder why these nails are the new go-to for your main-pedi.

Press-Ons Vs. The Nail Salon: No Chemicals

At home, you also have the option of using products that cause less damage to your nails. Sure, your pedicure can take it a bit better than your manicure as the nails are usually thicker and in less contact with wear and tear. However, the press-on pedicure options have expanded as well. With regards to chemicals, there are companies who have created press-on kits and take this into consideration. You also have the option to purchase those products yourself, extending the life of your natural nails underneath your preferred press-ons. No UV rays needed or acrylic used.

While hanging out in a salon for a Girls’ Night Out or having Me Time could make some miss the salon, that doesn’t mean you can’t go. Press-ons just give you the option to show up when you want to and save a few dollars when you don’t.
