This week's contest comes against another Mid-American Conference team, Western Michigan, and will be in primetime with a 7:30 p.m. ET kick off.Following the opening season victory, the seventh consecutive to begin a year under head coach Ryan Day, <a href="https://247sports.com/college/ohio-state/article/ohio-state-football-coaches-poll-ap-poll-week-2-235604567/">the Buckeyes remain No. 2 in both the Coaches and AP Poll</a>. The Broncos lost their first game of the season, falling in a hard-fought game at Wisconsin, 28-14. This marks the second-ever meeting between Ohio State and Western Michigan, following the 38-12 win for the Scarlet and Gray at the Horseshoe in 2015. The Buckeyes are now 37-1 all-time against MAC schools, with a 33-game winning streak against teams from the conference. The lone loss came in 1894 to Akron, 12-6 in Columbus. While it's only Week 2, judgments about teams are already made. The Scarlet and Gray made a slow start against the Zips last week, but finished strong, scoring on five of six of the final drives before the starters came out of the game. Ohio State's defense played well, forcing three turnovers and returning two for touchdowns. The snap is high for Western Michigan on third down. The Broncos recover the ball but it's at their three-yard line and they have to punt from their own endzone.Ohio State has to punt on its first possession of the second half.Western Michigan kicks off, and we're back underway.<h2>HALFTIME THOUGHTS</h2>Well, this is what fans hoped to see last week. The fast start continued throughout the first half. I like this aggressive Ryan Day. He talked about metrics the team needs to hit for College Football Playoff seeding and he's clearly standing by that. He was calling timeouts and kept throwing late in the half. It will be interesting to see when he pulls the starters and if he lets the backup offense continue to run.The Buckeyes have 406 yards of total offense in that first half. The offense clearly found its rhythm after the first quarter last week. Big plays too, which didn't happen all that often last season or last week.Will Howard has been great. He went 15-of-22 in that first half for 274 yards and one touchdown, plus rushing touchdown. He's been smart with his decisions again. The Buckeye defense is swarming. Not much negative to say. I like that they tried the three-linebacker look. Jim Knowles knows they'll need that against some Big Ten teams, including in a few weeks against Iowa. Interesting that it was Arvell Reese in for those plays and not C.J. Hicks.<h2>SECOND QUARTER</h2>Ohio State has to punt again after two straight incompletions.Buckeyes continue to be aggressive as they come out throwing. Jeremiah Smith with an impressive leaping catch.Jack Sawyer with a big sack and then Sonny Styles gets the stop on third down. Akron punting again.We've reached the two-minute timeout.That was Will Howard's first rushing touchdown as a Buckeye. Donovan Jackson and Cody Simon being available is big for the Scarlet and Gray. While neither is guaranteed to play, both are game-time decisions, both guys' availability means they are at least close to returning.
